“Twilight” director makes “A Better Life”: a story about immigration, work, love and family

This is a great story from a major studio that will stoke conversation about immigration reform and the struggles of immigrant families shot entirely in LA. At a time when everything from ICE raids to Dream Act legislation is frontpage news, this film allows for reflection about what is at the heart of it all. The director, Chris Weitz, of the “Twilight” movies series is turning his attention to an issue and manner of storytelling that could have been an ABC afterschool special but instead he made it into something with richness and heft. The film is due to release nationally on July 1.
