The impact of popular culture on workers’ lives shows again with the release of the film “Horrible Bosses” While the film itself, as a film, is so-so (with a Metascore of 57), it spurred numerous write-ups, articles and blogs about horrible bosses, and that, of course, gets people thinking about changing their work dynamic, how it doesn’t have to be that way, find the root causes, do something about it in the collective and so on. You get the point. Even a bad film about crazy-bad bosses, can be good for inspiring worker empowerment. Here’s a round-up of a few interesting perspectives due to the film’s release.
1) There is a Business Week article about real “Horrible Boss Syndrome” based on workplace surveys and anecdotes.
2) An organization attempts to break down 4 types of classic horrible bosses in a clinical fashion, yet based on pop cultural references of bosses like Mr. Slate on The Flintstones. Funny how that works, huh? See the press release here
3) This HuffPo blog on boss types from the folks that run the workplace venting site www.PleaseFireMe.com
4) Finally, a cheeky listing of the 25 Worst Horrible Bosses in Film. Spoiler: Meryl Streep plays the worst ever, beating out Scrooge on film.
